English FA Cup Final Squads
LIVERPOOL David James: Goalkeeper. Aged 25. On his day one of the best, and improving all the time, yet still capable of making mistakes. Much better in the air than he was when he first went to Anfield and reflexes as good as any. Will need to keep his head.
Mark Wright: Defender. Aged 32. Liverpool career seemed over two years ago but has had a new lease of life and gone from forgotten man to an England recall. Skipper in the 1992 win over Sunderland and now as comfortable as anyone with Roy Evans' defensive system.
John Scales: Defender. Aged 29. Urbane and articulate off the pitch, intelligence and speed are his main assets on it. The central pillar of the Anfield defensive troika, perhaps unlucky to be out of the England frame. Wembley winner as a Wimbledon substitute against Liverpool in 1988.
Phil Babb: Defender. Aged 25. Far more comfortable alongside Wright and Scales than when crowded out by the left-sided Ruddock, does still look hesitant defensively. No lack of speed and recovered from his toe injury just in time. Doubts over his Anfield future remain.
Jason McAteer: Midfield. Aged 24. Childhood dream came true when he completed his GBP4.5 million switch from Bolton in September. Now established in right-sided role and an extra attacking weapon. But defensively is suspect and will find Giggs a real problem.
Jamie Redknapp: Midfield. Aged 22. Lost five months after the knee ligament injury sustained on England duty in November and has not quite recaptured his early season form. Son of West Ham manager Harry.
