Why destroy precious asset?
As a newcomer to Hong Kong, I have been appalled by the attitude of Hong Kong citizens and businesses towards the environment.
On several occasions I have witnessed individuals pitching plastic bags and beer cans into the sea when a rubbish bin was only a few feet away.
Why do people here insist on destroying one of their most precious assets? Not only is it your water but also the rest of the world's.
Much of our food comes from these waters.
Would people throw refuse into a pot full of soup? I have been warned against participating in any dragon boat races in Victoria Harbour, because some people taking part have suffered the effects of direct contact with the water.
Apparently raw sewage is allowed to flow freely. As a resident of Discovery Bay, I travel daily on a ferry.
