CityU option to switch courses after first year
City University's Faculty of Business plans to introduce a programme which allows undergraduates to change their major after Year One and also select minors outside the faculty.
A first at the institution, this option also will incorporate one year of compulsory core courses for students wanting a broader foundation in business studies.
The Dean of Business, Professor Ho Yan-ki, said the revamp would cater to the business market by giving students flexibility.
'Hong Kong's business is very market-driven and the only way we can train students who are capable of coping with this is to be dynamic ourselves,' Professor Ho said.
'The revamp allows us to add related minor modules for students to choose whenever the market's demand for certain specialists increases.' The business department offers eight three-year degree programmes: accountancy, managerial statistics, quantitative analysis for business, business studies, international business studies for Japan and China, business economics, finance, and information systems.
Professor Ho said from September all 850 new business students will take the same 'core modules' for 17 hours a week, and general topics for two hours.
