Intel has announced the release of its LANDesk management suite version 2.5 (v2.5), the latest upgrade to its LAN management software.
Intel business unit manager Terry Dickson was in Hong Kong for the announcement.
Mr Dickson was keen to point out Intel has been in the LAN software business for five years and was not worried about the hype surrounding various Intranet solutions coming from Sun Microsystems and Oracle.
Sun and Oracle are interested in providing networking solutions based on a network computer (Oracle's NC) or on a Java box (Sun's version of the same thing emphasises the Java programming language it invented).
Mr Dickson said people have become accustomed to the personal power they are able to have with a full-working (Intel-based) desktop computer.
The new LANDesk management suite supports Windows NT, the 'business' version of Microsoft's 32-bit operating system.
