Hong Kong-based Ocean Information Holdings Ltd is upping the ante for the CD-Rom market by introducing its Octek CDR810, one of the world's first 10x CD-Rom drives.
Keeping in line with the company's target to remain ahead of the worldwide internal CD-Rom drive industry, the Octek CDR810 has a data transfer rate of 1,500 Kb per second and a quick random seek time of 170 milliseconds.
'On top of data transfer, our engineers have also achieved outstanding performance of zero error correction mistake and rapid seek time,' Bernard Leung, Ocean's executive director, said.
'The relevance of this feature for our customers is seen when the user is able to use scratched CD-Roms in our drives.' The Octek CDR810 is compatible with advanced Multimedia PC (MPC) III industry standard, and scales the CD gamut, with features including multi-session photo-CDs, CD-i movies and video CDs with a maximum of 680Mb disk capacity.
The 10x version sells at HK$1,299.
