Three accused of robbing actress

TWO men and a woman accused of robbing actress Ms Mary Jean Reiner Lau in an armed holdup at a Yau Ma Tei restaurant appeared in South Kowloon Court yesterday.

Decoration worker Pun Luen-pan, 20, illegal immigrant Kong Hing-keung, 23, and Cheng Wing-yee, 18, unemployed, face a joint count of robbery. No pleas have been taken.

It is alleged they robbed Ms Lau of a $56,000 watch, a $30,000 ring and earrings worth $6,500 at Tai Ping Koon Restaurant, Mau Lam Street, on January 2.

The Crown claims they committed the robbery with Lam Ka-lok, 20, who was remanded in custody after appearing at South Kowloon Court accused of robbery on Tuesday.

The court heard two police officers were injured during a shootout with the suspects.

Magistrate Mr Richard Davies adjourned the case until January 28 to allow time for further inquiries. The defendants were remanded in police custody.

In a separate case at San Po Kong Court, Pun's wife Fong Man-lai, 19, was accused of possessing firearms without a licence and possessing ammunition without a licence at Lion Rock Road last Sunday.

No pleas were taken and magistrate Mr Fergal Sweeney remanded her in police custody until Wednesday for further inquiries.
