The land disposal programme for this financial year has been greeted with yawns by some developers, who say there is a lack of prime sites.
They said there were only a few attractive sites and they might be too big for small and medium-size developers to secure.
The Lands Department last week listed 32 sites totalling 32.22 hectares for sale, 13 of them at five public auctions and the rest by tender.
It said sites of particular interest included a 285,246 sq ft reclaimed residential site in Siu Sai Wan and the police station site in Causeway Bay.
Developers said one of the most attractive was a 796,75 sq ft residential site at Wan Hoi Street, Hunghom, which was withdrawn from last year's programme.
Danny Cheung Shiu-kit, executive director at China Overseas Land & Investment, said that the Hunghom and Siu Sai Wan sites were big and might not benefit small and medium-sized developers with limited financial resources who were seeking sites. Other developers said there was a drop in quality and in developable area.
