GINSENG USA (Holdings) has filed a writ in the Supreme Court claiming compensatory and exemplary damages for statements made by the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin and its spokesman at a press conference in Hongkong. The plaintiff claimed that statements made by the defendant's director of Asian Operations, Mr Ng Chun-man, at the press conference on January 11 seriously injured its reputation, business and goodwill. It is also claimed it was brought into public scandal, odium and contempt, suffered loss and damage and was lowered in its standing in the ginseng trade. The plaintiff has 37 branches throughout Hongkong. It exports, imports and is also a wholesaler and retailer of ginseng and Chinese herbal medicines and products. As well as damages, it is claiming an injunction to restrain the defendant from further uttering, publishing or repeating similar words.
