Upset by exam card confusion

Reading Time:1 minute
Why you can trust SCMP

On May 9, I sat the Advanced-Level Chinese Language and Culture Oral Examination, at Wellington College Examination Centre.

According to the schedule, five minutes should be allowed for candidates to prepare part 1 of the oral exam. At first, I was given a long blue question card for part 1 by a staff member in the exam preparation room. After 11/2 minutes, I received another blue card. I asked why there were two papers for one exam, but there was no response. I thought there might have been changes in the exam format this year.

I kept reading both cards, but was very worried. After another 11/2 minutes, the member of staff collected the second blue card and admitted that it was not the exam card. That meant I now only had a further 11/2 minutes to prepare for the 'real' oral exam question.

I made a report to the examiners, but was given no extra time. I was not compensated for the staff member's errors.

All the examiners did was note my personal information. I was so confused and panic-stricken that my performance was seriously affected.

I was disappointed with the way the examiners and the staff members in the preparation room dealt with the situation. I was not treated fairly and the Examinations Authority should do something about this.
