As the Asean community moves towards a unified market by next year, developing a higher bandwidth infrastructure is imperative for greater connectivity.

To address market challenges ahead, Tellabs - the pioneer in the service provider industry - continues to create transformative network solutions.

"We seek to redefine the new enterprise network by bringing in our expertise, knowledge and innovation in deploying next-generation fibre connectivity," says Mike Dagenais, president and CEO.

Founded in 1978, Tellabs has a long heritage that has enabled it to bridge to the latest technology through technology innovations and acquiring best-of-breed technologies. A dominant player in North America, Tellabs is a trusted name in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Guam, and is active in Japan, South Korea, China and Southeast Asia.

Leveraging the strength of parent Marlin Equity Partners, a global investment firm and an emerging optical powerhouse, Tellabs maintains market leadership in optical local area network (LAN). Also known as passive Optical LAN, the point-to-multipoint network architecture uses a single optical fibre for faster, more affordable and highly reliable connections.

Tellab's Optical LAN business fits into the centralised and cloud-based traffic patterns. Compared to traditional copper-based LAN technology that has limited bandwidth and requires constant upgrades, Optical LAN uses a single mode fibre that has no bandwidth ceiling to serve multiple end points without needing infrastructure upgrades.

The nascent technology that promises to be a green alternative consumes up to 50 per cent less energy and occupies up to 90 per cent less physical space - all these at a fraction of the cost.

As testament to the company's competitive advantage in a fast-growing market, Tellabs' Optical LAN technology is tested, certified and deployed by the United States government for mission-critical services. The company also serves other state agencies and enterprise businesses worldwide for various LAN projects.

Tellabs looks to explore Asia's enterprise market. Besides government institutions, the company seeks opportunities in the finance field in maintaining data integrity and confidentiality of transactions. Tellabs also helps improve the functionality of modern hotels and resorts, enabling clients in the hospitality segment to deliver better customer service. As the health care industry grows into a major sector in the region, Tellabs sees further demand for hospital modernisation, especially in remote health services such as telemedicine.

Working hand in hand with optical technology company Coriant, Tellabs' sales and marketing arm, the company aims to strengthen its regional foothold through partnerships with system integrators and distributors that can represent its products locally. "At Tellabs, we provide access for today and connectivity for tomorrow," Dagenais says.
