THE half-naked body of a 16-year-old murder victim was found in a public toilet yesterday. Police believe she had been sexually assaulted. A woman found the body of May Cheng Lai-sim inside a cubicle reserved for disabled people on the ground floor of Kwong Yan House, Kwong Fuk Estate, at about 8.45 am. A pathologist said she had died of strangulation. Police believe money had been stolen from the girl. Officers found the girl's ID card and a bank card on the embankment of nearby Lam Tsuen River. Inquiries revealed that she had quit as a waitress at a Mongkok curry restaurant about a month ago after collecting her year-end bonus. She left her Tung Tau Estate home in Wong Tai Sin to live with her boyfriend in a Kwong Fuk flat. She broke up with her boyfriend and left his home a few days ago. She hung around the estate with youngsters. She volunteered to work for nothing at a temporary roadside kiosk selling Lunar New Year tangerines. One of the youths who met her on Wednesday night said she came to the stall at about 6 pm and chatted with four boys and girls selling the festive flowers. Early yesterday morning, May said she wanted to go to the toilet, he said. ''Since she was new here, she walked some distance to the public toilet at Kwong Fuk Estate. She didn't return,'' the boy said. A woman sweet shop owner at the market, Ms Yeung Hau-shun, said May frequented her shop with other teenagers during the day. ''They come to my shop to chat and volunteer to help because I like them and I'm sociable.'' Ms Yeung said May told her she planned to return home for Lunar New Year yesterday.
