Car rental companies are cashing in on the popularity of self-drive holidays among Asians.
As part of its Asian expansion programme, Hertz recently launched a reservation service and opened offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.
It also plans to launch a car hire business covering Hong Kong and southern China.
The United States company launched a toll-free reservation service for Hong Kong and Singaporean customers in April. A sales and marketing office was opened in Hong Kong at the same time.
Known as Hertz Direct, the toll-free reservation service is operated from the firm's Singapore office.
Customers can reserve a car anywhere in the world by talking directly to a multi-lingual Hertz staff member. 'Developing our own reservation system is a major step in expanding our presence in the Asian region,' Wong Soon Hwa, Hertz's Asia-Pacific director of marketing and franchise, said.
