The Chinese University of Hong Kong is to launch a new course in interactive multimedia design and development from September with the support of a $1.3 million university grant for special equipment.
Course instructor Dr Louis Leung said the programme would look at the foundations and principles behind the development and production processes involved in this new entertainment and information media from the academic and professional perspectives.
It covers design and production of multimedia content, applying computer tools to digital media production, content creation and distribution, and multimedia production.
The Department of Journalism and Communication is buying hardware and software worth $1.3 million, including a $700,000 broadcast quality, non-linear digital video editing system.
Dr Leung, lecturer in the department, said the emphasis would be on the understanding and basic operation of computer applications developed for digital media, and thus will involve using a variety of on-line and off-line software.
The 13-week programme will also provide students with a working knowledge of how to apply computer-based production tools to the creation of a variety of media types, formats and resolutions.
