On the catwalk and in the magazines and newspapers they look glamorous, with the power that goes with beauty. They wear the latest and the best, and seem almost unapproachable in their chic elegance.

But the models will be the first to tell you that their work is just like any other job. It is routine, and demands hard work and discipline.

Being a model is like running a personal business, say two fashion models Young Post spoke to.

'We invest time and energy that the public does not see,' says Jimmy Wong, a model of eight years.

Vanessa Yeung, a colleague of Jimmy's at the Elite Hong Kong Model Management Company, says her work behind the scenes makes her look more like a researcher.

'I go through stacks of foreign beauty magazines to see how other models present themselves,' she says.
