MR John Allison has been appointed by Federal Express Corp (Fedex) as managing director for Hongkong, China and Macau. Mr Allison, who will be responsible for all operations in the region, joined Fedex in 1984 and was awarded the company's Five Star Award for outstanding performance in 1989. During his previous role as managing director for Australia and New Zealand, he oversaw Fedex's acquisition of Rainers Transport and the merger of the Australia and New Zealand branches of Flying Tigers with Fedex. Mr Allison began his career in the air express industry as a part-time clerk with another cargo company before graduating from Riverside City College, California. Meanwhile, Fedex says its average daily volume of express packages and documents last month was 22 per cent higher than in December 1991.
