Steven Grandchamp, a visiting Microsoft specialist from the United States, unveiled BackOffice 2.0, the updated Microsoft back-end suite of server products before a seminar in Hong Kong last week.
Version 2.0 of BackOffice replaces 1.5 and includes NT Server 3.51, SNA Server Systems Management Server and three new features, SQL Server 6.5, Exchange Server 4.0 and Internet Information Server 1.0.
Mr Grandchamp said the suite was released within the MS mission statement to build a foundation for a transparent, distributed computing environment for the intranet and Internet.
He said all the BackOffice products were designed to coexist with existing NetWare and Unix sites.
The new version of SQL Server was also announced with emphasis on the product's new Internet and intranet capabilities.
