Legislators said Britain's latest report on human rights in Hong Kong failed to reflect concerns over protection of civil liberties after the handover.

The report is to be examined by the UN Human Rights Committee in the autumn.

The supplementary report was requested by the committee when it examined the fourth periodic report on Hong Kong last October. It covers the development of the human rights situation in the territory since then.

Britain said in it that it would continue to make known to China its views that the provisional legislature was unacceptable.

But Democratic Party legislator Albert Ho Chun-yan was disappointed.

Britain should have said the provisional legislature was inconsistent with the Liaison Group and the Basic Law, he said.
