Uhlsport-Rangers' decision to slash their budget by half and field almost entirely a youth team next season is the best possible news for young players.

Rangers have reduced their budget from $8 million to only $3.5 million after a bitterly disappointing season in which the club failed to win any trophy or appear in any Cup finals.

The previous season, Rangers won two major trophies: the Senior Challenge Shield and the San Miguel FA Cup.

Rangers chairman Lam Tai-fai said he was disappointed by his club's performance, and he decided to reduce the team's budget because 'the team's performance did not merit another big spending season.' Lam said he will field more youth players and he was not looking to recruit any foreign players.

Rangers have several youth players like forward Kwok Man-tik, midfielders Poon Yiu-cheuk and Choi Chung-yin and defender Poon man-chun.

It will mean all these players and every other youth player Rangers are thinking of signing over the next few months will probably have a regular place in the squad next season.

'We won't be fighting for places anymore, and this means that more youth players will have a chance to play. This is something we have all been hoping for,' said 21-year-old Poon.
