Senior Chinese official Lu Ping will meet Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong on the second leg of his four-state visit to promote the territory's future. Concluding his six-day trip to Japan, Mr Lu will fly to Singapore today. Singapore's foreign ministry said Mr Lu would meet Foreign Minister S. Jayakumar and Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew on Monday, and premier Goh Chok Tong on Tuesday. The senior Chinese official on Hong Kong affairs will also give a speech called 'China's Policy and Approaches on the Future of Hong Kong'. His remarks this week in Japan had triggered concerns about whether Hong Kong could continue to hold pro-democracy rallies after the handover. Mr Lu was reported to have said they would not be allowed.
