Teenager Lincoln Lo Jien, a pianist-turned-pop singer, has the two basic factors required to become a star: bags of talent - and lots of luck.
Lincoln's latest stroke of luck came in the form of a brief encounter with veteran Hong Kong singer Roman Tam that resulted in a commission to write the theme tune for the latter's anniversary album.
'I was at a Mother Day's function organised by RTHK and Roman was there. I was the pianist for the show and I improvised a bit,' Lincoln recalled.
'Shortly afterward, he approached me and asked if I would like to write the theme song for his 25th anniversary concert and new album. I was thrilled.' The talent has always been there. At 17, Lincoln has already released his debut album -Total Youth Creation - which features 10 tracks which he wrote and arranged.
'The pressure was enormous, especially writing the lyrics and producing. I was freshly out of school when I made the album [in October] and I'm glad that my record company [Nice Track] dared to put their name on the line,' he said.
Lincoln's classical training - both in Hong Kong and France - was similar to that of a concert soloist on his way to international acclaim.
After graduating as a piano major from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, he perfected his technique at the Conservatoire Nation de Region de Musique in France.
