A 20-year-old dance instructor was stabbed in the stomach when his romance with an older woman turned sour, a court heard yesterday. Scott Brandon Todd met Chan Ming-ming, 40, at a Causeway Bay dance studio where he taught tango and ballroom dancing. Mr Todd was told by the Academy of Dance management to lie about his age and tell his students he was 30, the District Court heard. A romance developed between Chan and Mr Todd, but 'their relationship developed rather unevenly and resulted in an 'on and off again' relationship,' prosecutor Joseph Stevenson said. Unknown to Mr Todd, Chan would often visit his flat when he was not there, convincing the caretaker to let her in. The dance student would go to his room and retrieve gifts she had given to him. By January 21 the romance had broken up, but in anger Chan stabbed Mr Todd in the stomach, thigh and hand with a knife. She was cut on the hand during the struggle, the court heard. Chan denied a charge of wounding with intent to cause bodily harm. The trial continues today before Judge Chua Fi-lan.
