Amir Bhai, 49, was remanded by a magistrate at Eastern Court yesterday after his arrest on Monday night, which ended a six-month international hunt.

Indian authorities have 60 days to submit evidence about Bhai's alleged role in the country's biggest financial scandal for an extradition hearing.

An Interpol source said it had been tipped off about his arrival on a flight from Dubai. The court heard that he conspired with others to collect kickbacks from companies bidding for contracts with the National Hydro Power Corp and the National Thermal Power Corp. He is accused of passing on the bribes to public servants.

This latest US$21 million (HK$162 million) bribes-for-favours scandal has rocked the country.
