West Australian shipbuilder Austal Ships has completed a high-speed ferry, the Zeng Cheng Yi Hao, for China's Zeng Cheng City Port Construction Development Co. The 40-metre vessel, which was ordered by the Chinese owner through Hong Kong-based Yuet Hing Marine Supplies, is scheduled to enter service on the 68-nautical-mile route between the Xin Tang port and Hong Kong later this month. Austal said: 'Zeng Cheng Yi Hao was built to China Classification Society standards.' The vessel is made from lightweight aluminium and fitted with twin diesel engines that can provide a fully loaded service speed of 34 knots. The craft also has seating in two air-conditioned decks. The main deck accommodates 206 passengers while the upper deck seats 62. There are three private VIP rooms fitted with leather lounge chairs. Apart from the VIP rooms, seating is configured in an aircraft-style arrangement. The wheelhouse is equipped for a standard three-man crew, with advanced electronics equipment including Furuno radar, Skipper depth sounder, Sailor radios and closed circuit television monitoring.
