THE judges of the Hongkong Independent short film competition are busy viewing all the films submitted last December by enthusiastic filmmakers, and the results for best fiction, best non-fiction and best animation will be announced later this month. The short film competition was the first of its kind organised by the Urban Council to promote quality non-commercial short films and to encourage independent film production. From September to November last year, three workshops were held so that potential participants could sample some outstanding local short films, ask questions on production techniques and share the experience of veteran film-makers who hosted the workshops. A total of 63 entries were received when applications closed on December 7. It is expected that winning entries will be screened at the forthcoming 17th Hongkong International Film Festival in April.
