Central authorities have approved plans to put all film studios in the country under the supervision of the Radio, Film and Television Department.
'In the past, the 30 studios have been put under supervision of either the provincial Culture Departments or the Radio, Film and Television Department and the overall administration is quite chaotic,' a senior official from the Film Industry Administration said.
'By putting all studios under Radio, Film and Television Department supervision in the reform blueprint, it is hoped that television advertising revenue can be used to sponsor film production and rejuvenate the ailing film industry,' he said.
It was also hoped that under 'proper control', film and television producers would no longer compete for similar stories.
The official said that film and television producers would be issued 'licences' and requirements for them would be laid down.
Asked if officials might confiscate producers' licences if 'improper' productions were made, the official said it was possible.
