Beijing to get copy of protest itinerary

China is to be told the proposed itinerary in Beijing of a delegation campaigning against the provisional legislature.

The schedule of the 10-member delegation would be sent to Xinhua (the New China News Agency) next week, group spokesman Andrew Cheng Kar-foo said.

'It is a courtesy to inform them of the schedule and timetable of our visit. If they have a response, they should let us know,' Mr Cheng said.

'We also want to make it clear that our mission is not confidential. Our objective is publicly known and we are not intending to 'break into' China.' The group plans to spend at most two days in Beijing from July 1.

They aim to hand over a petition to the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office and Qiao Shi , chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress, calling for the provisional legislature to be abandoned.

Eight members with valid travel documents are determined to go.

They are legislators Mr Cheng, Tsang Kin-shing and Dr John Tse Wing-ling; Law Chiu-fai and Andrew To Kwan-hang from the Democratic Party; legislator and unionist Leung Yiu-chung; and independent Yum Sin-ling.

Democrat Urban Councillor Steve Chan Kwok-leung, who was denied entry to Guangzhou on Monday, will also try to go.

Three other legislators who wanted to go have been refused visas or home return permits.

The group has collected about 40,000 signatures.
