Our friends at HK Magazine have announced the winners in their latest annual readers' poll of the best and worst restaurants in Hong Kong, and who are We to argue? Best New Restaurant was Q, the 1997 Group's innovative outlet in Hong Kong's up-and-coming trendy location, Quarry Bay.

Planet Hollywood won two awards, for Best and Worst Decor - perhaps that just goes to show that one person's meat is another person's poison.

And the Luk Yu Teahouse was the winner (or was it the loser?) of the Worst Service Award. To many other restaurants that shall remain nameless - we all know who you are - please take note.

Speaking of winners, Peter Kwong Ying-chi, the bar-bistro supervisor at the Ladies' Recreation Club, has been judged the best sommelier in Hong Kong. He won the recent Hong Kong selection for the international Sopexa Grand Prix 1997 (Wine Master Competition). Candidates underwent a rigorous written test about wine tasting and the history of French wine, and a practical test of their skills in wine serving.

Kwong will represent Hong Kong at the international final in Bordeaux, France, in June next year.

Cool down this summer with one of the many tempting fruity drinks and wicked ice cream concoctions on offer in various hotels around town.

The Royal Pacific Hotel and Towers in Tsim Sha Tsui has put together a menu of Summer Sizzlers. How about a 'Cherry Marnier'? It combines Cherry Marnier liqueur, dry gin, triple sec, pineapple juice and lemon juice. The non-alcoholic 'Kiwi Kiwi' is a mix of passionfruit juice, mango juice and fresh kiwifruit.
