Dance of death

Musician Peter Suart has been a solid member of Hong Kong's avant garde for as long as most of us can remember.

His group, The Box, have been performing on and off for the past nine years or so, and he has worked with innovative dance groups like CCDC and Dance Forum Taipei. His credentials as a slightly wacky creative type are firmly established.

Even so, his latest production in his Eternity Series, Grace and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, makes me ponder: has Suart gone completely hatstand? The show deals with the deepest question of all, how can God (in the loosest, multi-denominational sense) make you feel good when so many horrible things are happening all around? And Suart will be expanding on the four scenes representing each of the Horrors, or Horsemen. Just in case you don't count the Book of Revelations as one of your favourite Bible texts, and can't remember the full list, these are the unhappy foursome of War, Famine, Plague and Death.

Pretty ghastly stuff really, and it is hard to imagine how this is going to be in any way entertaining, let alone watchable, even though there will be songs along the way and 'nudity'.

The Arts Centre warns 'some of the material is distressing'. All of the material sounds distressing.

This is a man after all who lists his interests as 'rock 'n' roll . . . painting, design and Penetration of the Mystery'.
