The Red Ribbon Centre, due to open in September, will store local and overseas medical periodicals, research material and information on worldwide AIDS groups.

The $7.7 million centre, operated by the Department of Health, has an information centre, an exhibition area, a library and a resource unit.

It is on the second floor of the Wang Tau Hom Jockey Club Clinic in Wong Tai Sin. The clinic has a general out-patient clinic and a maternal health centre but does not offer treatment. Assistant Director of Health Dr Chan Wai-man said the centre should not draw resentment from residents.

'The centre is intended to provide numerous AIDS-related materials in one place,' she said. 'It will especially benefit small groups who normally don't have their own library or resources.' People aged above 11 can apply for membership, which entitles them to use the centre's facilities and obtain newsletters.
