Sharon Wong Shui-kwan, 15, is terminally ill with systemic lupus erythematosus, which means her antibodies attack her own system instead of diseases.

Sharon has spent most of the past year at Queen Elizabeth Hospital battling to control the illness. She has managed to keep up with her studies and will begin Form Four in September.

She knows it is unlikely she will fully recover and that she faces a life-long struggle with the disease, but she dreams of becoming a doctor or nurse.

Sharon is now waiting for a hip replacement that will give her the chance to lead a normal life and attend school. Her illness has caused circulation problems in her legs that have damaged her hip joint.

The teenager's family lives in Sha Tin and both parents are unemployed.

Her stuffed toy, Be Be, keeps her company through the long nights in hospital.

What's on your mind? I want to enjoy the sunshine and fly a kite at Tai O. I've had to stay out of the sun since I became sick. But most of all I want to go to school.
