Next week's edition of Asiaweek will have a new look.

Redesign of the regional news weekly comes as the magazine reports a 20 per cent increase in circulation and advertising revenue in the past two years.

A spokesman said advertising revenues amounted to US$21 million last year and were expected to reach US$24 million next year.

Survey Research Hong Kong's Advertising Expenditure (ADEX) data listed Asiaweek 's revenue at US$4.9 million for the first quarter of the year for an 8.07 per cent share of the publication market. Overall, it listed the magazine's revenues 13.43 per cent up compared with the same period last year.

Editor Ann Morrison said the redesign, the magazine's first in 15 years, was needed to remain competitive. 'Essentially, all magazines do it and this was the time for Asiaweek. It needed a little freshening up,' Ms Morrison said.

'Our demographics are good and, overall, the audience is just about where we want it. We want readers to think this is more sophisticated but still the same magazine.' She declined to reveal the cost of the redesign, saying only that it was low since much of it was done in-house.
