A child molester who paid four young girls to be his sex toys was jailed yesterday for five years. The caretaker, 56, gave one 10-year-old $100 a month, and a 'bonus' of $20 to $100 for each sex session. On several occasions he stripped the girls naked and assaulted them in front of younger friends. Judge Andrew Chung told the defendant it was 'a bad case of sex abuse' involving 'acts almost amounting to sexual intercourse'. He added: 'Acts of gross indecency were performed on these girls, sometimes in full view of other young children.' The caretaker, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was jailed after admitting eight charges of indecent assault on four girls aged nine to 13. Prosecutor Joseph To Ho-shing told the District Court how the abuse began in mid-1994, when the defendant lured a 10-year-old to his flat to watch a video. As he held her he put his hand down her jeans and fondled her. He later gave her $100. In another assault, he persuaded her 13-year-old friend to go to his flat, where he stripped her and lay on top of her. The offences went on until his arrest last December, when one of the children reported the matter to a social worker. Wong Man-kit, defending, said the caretaker molested the girls after they started blackmailing him for money. He said: 'Before the offences, a number of girls had gone up to his premises, and some of them took off their clothes. They said he should pay them or he would be accused of indecent assault. 'He promised to pay them $100 a month. Since it was an unfair demand he said to himself, 'Why don't I take advantage of these girls and get something out of it?' ' But Judge Chung said: 'The proper response would have been to tell the girls' parents.' He told the caretaker the most serious assaults deserved sentences of six years each, but took into account his clean record and guilty plea.
