THE lawyer brother of Chief Secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang was hit with a writ for more than $500,000 yesterday over claims that he bungled a property deal.

John Fang Meng-sang, 56, faces the allegations two weeks after winning a long-running legal battle with the Law Society.

The Supreme Court writ accuses him of negligence in the preparation of papers for the mortgage and purchase of a flat in Nassau Street, Mei Foo Sun Chuen, Kowloon, in 1988.

Albert Shum Chi-ping and Tang Lai-ping, who bought the premises, claim in the writ that Mr Fang, as their solicitor, made four vital mistakes.

They claim he was responsible for wrongly describing the property when preparing schedules for the purchase.

He also incorrectly described a deed of covenant and documents forming part of the title deeds, the writ alleges.
