The parents of 24-year-old Chan Wai-wah went to Repulse Bay to pray that the body would be found intact. They burst into tears when Fire Services Department divers retrieved it from the bottom of the bay near an offshore raft close to anti-shark nets.

Chan, who was also an auxiliary police officer, had five brothers and sisters and lived with his parents at Li Cheng Uk Estate, Shamshuipo.

He and a friend intended to swim to the floating platform shortly after 6 pm. Chan got into difficulties and his friend tried to help, but he also started to struggle. He was rescued by other swimmers but Chan disappeared.

Marine Police launches and divers mounted a search that was abandoned just before 10 pm because of darkness.
