With one year to go before the handover, some expats nervous about their future are preparing to search for opportunities in other countries where they will surely demand higher salaries than the locals and the right to work without those annoying employment visas, like the British have always done in Hong Kong. I can't wait for the day when work visas are required of all the British in the territory.
I wonder how all those irrelevant expat socialites are going to justify their staying when pleading their cases with the Special Administrative Region's (SAR) Immigration Department.
As many expats who will leave before July 1, 1997 have stated that they will not be returning, may I remind the Inland Revenue and Immigration departments to be prepared for the large number of tax evaders who will surely be fleeing the territory in the months to come.
