The seven technical institutes of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) are receiving applications for their 1996/97 full-time Post-Secondary Three courses and Craft Foundation Courses. Applications for part-time courses are also accepted. The courses will begin in September and the application deadline is August 12. The 24 full-time Craft Foundation Courses offered are targeted at young people of Form Three level. The courses are in 10 disciplines: construction; design; electrical engineering; electronic engineering; manufacturing engineering; marine engineering and fabrication; mechanical engineering; motor vehicle engineering; printing, and textile industries. These one-year courses range from pattern and model-making, welding, gas utilisation fitting, lift engineering, air-conditioning and refrigeration, vehicle body repairs to computerised phototypesetting, weaving as well asgoldsmithing. Craft Foundation Course students do not have to pay tuition. They will receive theoretical education at technical institutes and skills training at industrial training centres. Also on offer are 16 full-time Post-Secondary Three courses in the disciplines of applied science, clothing technology, commercial studies, general studies, manufacturing engineering, textile industries, marine engineering and fabrication. Some of the general studies, commercial and clothing technology courses require applicants to have completed Form Four or some technical institute craft courses. All the other courses welcome young people who have completed Form Three. On completion of the courses, students can enter industries, join the VTC Apprenticeship Scheme or continue to study the technician preparatory certificates provided by the technical institutes. Moreover, some 90 part-time courses are offered in 16 disciplines. They are: hotel-keeping and tourism studies; commercial studies; construction; electrical engineering; electronic engineering; mechanical engineering; general studies; manufacturing engineering; printing and textile industries; clothing technology; marine engineering; fabrication; design; applied science; computing studies, and motor vehicle engineering. These courses are offered at craft and technician levels for applicants who have finished Form Three. Those who have obtained Grade E or above in the prescribed subjects in the HKCEE, can also apply. To be admitted, applicants have to be sponsored by their employers. Application forms and guides are available at the seven technical institutes - Morrison Hill, Kwai Chung, Kwun Tong, Haking Wong, Lee Wai Lee, Tuen Mun and Sha Tin - and the VTC's Kwai Chung, Kowloon Bay and Pokfulam Training Centre complexes. Those on the part-time programmes are also available at VTC's Apprentice Placement Unit located at 1/F, VTC Tower, 27 Wood Road, Wan Chai.
