RTHK is embarking on a series of television and radio specials examining the transition - and preparing Hong Kong residents for the transfer of sovereignty.

A series of five-minute television reports on political, economic and cultural issues will be produced by guest editors and 20 aired each month.

Documentaries are being produced to examine the impact of the handover on Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Shanghai.

The Heritage docu-drama series will pick up where it left off in the mid-1980s with shows over the summer tracing the lives of characters from 1984 to 1995 during the era of tumultuous political events which gripped Hong Kong.

The Radio One Cantonese-language station will link up with stations in Guangdong for phone-in programmes on Saturday mornings.

A series of Putonghua-language lessons will air on Radio Three to help English-language speakers pick up words and phrases.
