The new Mark Six numbers, 46 and 47, have come up three times in the six draws since they were introduced on June 11. In two, both came up.
But don't scramble to add them to your lucky list of winning digits, or discuss theories about new balls or a fix: statisticians say the results are normal.
'I think if you looked for any two particular numbers over six draws you would probably find they came up that often. The probability is pretty high,' said Hong Kong University statistician Paul Yip.
There is a 20 per cent chance that both or either of two chosen numbers will come up in three draws out of six - or even more, he said.
Lotteries Board secretary Philip Chan Kwok-choi agreed. 'It's just coincidence,' he said.
And no, it's not to do with the balls being new.
