A new concept which takes a natural approach to external slimming aids and the promotion of healthy skin is taking Australia by storm, according to Walter Kobald, sole agent of Jurlique health and beauty products in Hong Kong.

  The secret of Jurlique's new skin-care range, to be launched in Asia at the Australian pavilion, lies in the inclusion of a unique pine and grape seed extract - oligomeric proanthocyanidin (OPCs).

  OPCs carry rejuvenating properties that hinder the ageing process and promote the body's natural ability to heal.

  'They are non-toxic, have no side effects and deeply penetrate the skin, protecting and nurturing cells, eliminating harmful toxins and slowing the ageing process,' Mr Kobald said.

  He said OPCs were also a defence against several diseases. They strengthened and protected blood cells, stimulated cell activity to accept nutrients and eliminated waste more effectively.

  'OPCs have been called 'youth nutrients' because of their ability to bond collagen, which promotes youthful-looking skin and enhances elasticity,' Mr Kobald said.

  'They help to counteract damage caused by air and food pollution that leads to a build-up in free radicals, which destroys DNA and contributes to premature ageing and disease.'   Mr Kobald said OPCs were also reputed to revitalise the brain and nervous system.

   The Jurlique OPC range was suitable for all skin types, he said. Its face and body products included Foaming Facial Cleanser, Face Beauty Mask and a Body Exfoliating Mask which nourished and strengthened the skin.

  In addition to the OPCs, they contained the antiseptic and healing tea-tree oil.

  Like all Jurlique products, the OPC line was based on the ancient arts of alchemy, homeopathy and aromatherapy, Mr Kobald said. Its pleasant herb aroma was similar to the fragrance of rosemary with a hint of lavender.

  'All our ingredients are organically grown at our own herb farm and are free of chemicals, artificial preservatives, colours or fragrances, making them the purest skin-care treatment in the world,' Mr Kobald said.

  He said one of the most sought-after products in Australia was Jurlique's new Slimming Gel which combined OPCs with pure essential oils to act on water retention, fatty deposits and connective tissue, resulting in a firmer, more toned effect.

  Another bonus was improved blood and lymphatic circulation and a reduction in the appearance of cellulite.

  Designed for daily use, the gel was particularly effective on problem areas such as upper legs. With continuous use, noticeable results could be expected after 21 days.

  'The gel should be applied two or three times a day, using firm but gentle upward strokes, to achieve firmness and fat reduction,' Mr Kobald said.

  Jurlique expected a strong response to its latest wholistic skin-care treatments, none of which are tested on animals.

  'There is a growing awareness of the therapeutic benefits of natural products. In Australia, we have recently expanded our business from salon outlets and pharmacists to department store counters. We plan to open Jurlique boutiques in the near future,' he said.

  The company will be seeking new agents in Asia at the fair.
