Judo Mo finds Olympic form
Judo expert Wu Ching-hui demolished the opposition at a Hong Kong tournament to give herself a boost before the Olympics.
Wu, affectionately known as Little Mo, led Hong Kong Judo Kan to victory in the women's event at the Hong Kong Judo Team Championships, held at the Urban Council Sporting Complex in Hung Hom.
It was her last competition before the Atlanta Games, which start a week from tomorrow. She got a wild card entry to the Olympics after her application to compete was at first rejected by the Hong Kong Amateur Sports Federation and the Olympic Committee.
Wu, a 21-year-old student, said she was not up against any international competitors at the Hung Hom championships, but the matches were still good experience.
'They were all local players of average ability, but the timing of the competition was quite good for me because I leave for Atlanta very soon and I needed some competition,' she said.
The Hong Kong federation had at first turned down Wu's application to represent the territory in Atlanta, despite her winning the gold medal at last year's Pacific Ocean Games in Colombia. But officials later decided she deserved help in getting a wild card for the centennial games.
A tough little competitor who holds an advanced second dan judo qualification, Wu can beat almost anyone on her day.
