We refer to the letter headlined 'Marine speed limit would help harbour safety' (South China Morning Post, July 9). Since 1994 we have put in place special arrangements to help those in wheelchairs get on to the lower deck of our boats. The details are published in a brochure from the Government's Transport Department. As far as safety is concerned, we have fitted safety equipment on our ferries' gangplanks. Moreover, we have also revised our mooring arrangements to reduce the degree of rolling when our ferries are berthed. In terms of comfort, we offer an air-conditioned section on the upper deck of all of our fleet. According to our records, two air-conditioned sections on our boats were out of order last week. We have now arranged with our dockyard for the boats to be fixed. In line with our philosophy of service improvements, we will endeavour to maintain reliable, safe and comfortable cross-harbour ferry services for our passengers.
