Queen's College's star student Benjamin Yau Shiu-bun has made his father's dream come true.

  The night before the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination results were announced, Benjamin's father dreamt that his son had scored five As in the exam.

  And Benjamin really did. He picked up a knockout results slip of five As: Chemistry A(2), Physics A(1), Pure Mathematics A(2), Use of English [AS] A(1), and Chinese Language and Culture [AS] A(2).

  Benjamin has once again lived up to his parents' expectations. In 1994, he did his parents proud by scoring nine distinctions in the HKCEE.

  The bright scholar said his A-Level results came as a delightful surprise.

  'The two exams (HKCEE and A-Levels) are very different,' the 19-year-old student explained.

  'The A-Levels are much more difficult and competitive. I didn't expect to do this well.'   Benjamin has to decide whether to go to Cambridge University in Britain or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.

  'Both schools have offered me a place this autumn, but I haven't made up my mind,' he told Young Post.

  'I will be majoring in civil engineering, although I may switch to another area in the same field later on.'   Benjamin said he developed an interest in engineering partly because of his school's traditional strength in the field.

  His schoolmate Alwin Yeung Wai-tak, 19, also scored five As in the A-Levels.

  Alwin obtained A(1)s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and A(2)s in Use of English [AS] and Chinese Language and Culture [AS].

  'I am very happy with my results,' said the softspoken Alwin. 'It's a relief, as I had been getting very anxious in the last few days.'   He said he did not want to raise his hopes too high as he had scored only eight As in the HKCEE. The science student will be studying medicine at the University of Hong Kong in September.

  'I have always wanted to be a doctor, and my parents have supported me all the way,' he said.

  'I am especially interested in medical research, and will pursue my studies in this area.'
