Regina Ip can be spared the exhausting marching and physical training her staff must go through when entering the Immigration Department - if she wants. A Civil Service Branch spokesman yesterday said 'it would be a matter for the new director' if she wanted to take the training or not. The spokesman said: 'If she thinks she needs training on a specific area, she can liaise with her staff. There is no rigid rule requiring her to take the training.' But a department spokesman added: 'As the director, she would not need to march anyway. She is expected to parade her men, instead of being on parade.' Mrs Ip has also said she will learn how to wear the ceremonial uniform. She is required to wear full dress uniform when attending ceremonies. But she can wear plain clothes for office work.
