The Bar Association has urged the Preparatory Committee to talk to the legal profession about existing laws that will be repealed after the handover.
The call was made by a delegation led by chairman Gladys Li Chi-hei QC when it met mainland members of the committee's legal sub-group. Delegation member Chan Man-man said they hoped the existing practice of prior consultation would be adopted by the committee when vetting whether laws contravened the Basic Law.
Dr Chan said they have exchanged views with mainland members on a number of contentious legal issues.
