The University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Education is aiming to strengthen its research work and become the centre for education studies in the Asia-Pacific region, its next dean has said. Dr Frederick Leung Koon-shing, at present associate dean, will replace Professor Cheng Kai-ming. He vowed to make better use of research resources and raise the faculty's public profile. 'Most of our faculty members represent different committees and work on research on various education issues, but there has not yet been any concerted effort towards co-ordination,' he said. The faculty will also concentrate more on teacher training. Professor Cheng is going to Harvard Graduate School of Education, in the United States, in September to become its first Asian visiting professor.
