Internet users that travel abroad often complain about the difficulty of accessing their home accounts.

The connections are often bad, it costs a lot of money or getting through to the account is almost impossible.

Users will soon be able to put their worries aside, as most local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have either formed alliances with other companies or now offer roaming services.

The concept of roaming services is creating great opportunities for travelling executives and others, as they can now visit any part of Asia or the United States and be able to log on to their own ISP.

Organisations forming alliances to offer roaming services include HKNet, which is joining a North American consortium; Asia On-Line, providing its own service to customers; HK SuperNet, teaming up with Pacific Internet in Singapore and Internet Initiative Japan; and IBM joining up with AT&T.

The Internetworking Corporation (TIC), the ISP offering roaming services in Britain, is planning to extend service into China by the end of the year. The next country on the schedule is the US.
