The Mass Transit Railway Corporation has been ordered by the Government to investigate continuing faults and take urgent remedial action after yet another train stoppage yesterday.
Scores of peak-hour commuters on the Island Line were delayed for 15 minutes after a train broke down.
The Transport Branch has told the MTR to look into continuing problems, while legislators have demanded a full review, fearing the faults could be inherited by the new airport rail link.
An MTR spokesman said the power supply to the train was disrupted at about 8.30 am as it headed from Central to Sheung Wan station.
It was the fourth MTR breakdown in three weeks.
Acting Transport Secretary Paul Leung Sai-wah said the branch was consulting the company and remedial measures would be implemented as soon as possible.
