Young Pat Sin Leng hero Lee Chun-man returned yesterday to thank some of the police officers who helped rescue him from the hillfire that claimed the lives of five other hikers.

The 13-year-old schoolboy, who is still walking with a crutch and receives physiotherapy twice a week, has also joined the Prince of Wales Hospital's voluntary team to visit patients in the orthopaedic wards.

'Apart from medicine, patients need people to talk to so as to gain support and comfort,' he said.

Chun-man broke his leg and was left lying on the hill overnight after he slipped from the clutches of a helicopter crewmember trying to rescue him.

His two teachers and three school mates were killed in the February fire, and four other pupils are still in hospital receiving treatment for their burns.

Yesterday, Chun-man represented the families of the blaze victims at a presentation to Tai Po district police for their part in the rescue and four-month investigation into the fire.
