Jim Rohwer is a director and the Asian Emerging Markets Strategist for Credit Suisse First Boston in Hong Kong. Mr Rohwer, an American born in Colorado, received two degrees in history and economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a law degree from Harvard. He left his law practice in San Francisco to move to London in 1982 to join The Economist magazine as a journalist. He continued there until 1991, when, after setting up and running the magazine's Asia section since 1987, he moved to Hong Kong to become The Economist's Asia correspondent.
In 1994 he left The Economist to work for First Boston, where he analyses Asian economics and politics to support the firm's fixed-income and currency dealings in the region.
Mr Rohwer wrote a book, Asia Rising , about Asia's tremendous economic success over the past two generations and how this will change the world. Published in late 1995, the book has been on the Post's best-seller list continuously since last December.
