Mystery still surrounds a multi-million dollar money laundering scam that last week led to Chinese student Ren Peng being sentenced to 18 months' periodic detention.
Ren, 38, pleaded guilty to money laundering but denied knowing where the A$22 million (HK$133.76 million) came from.
The cash was deposited into 13 Sydney bank accounts over a period of two months in 1993.
Ren testified that it never even crossed his mind to question the source of the funds.
A second Chinese student, Guo Jiangling, 33, is also due to appear in court in September charged with money laundering offences over A$27 million deposited into Australian bank accounts.
Both cases were linked to a man called Sun Ming, who is believed to be waiting for trial in Beijing.
The procuratorate in Beijing, however, has refused to comment on the case.
